Arizona Pool Safety, "Two Seconds is Too Long"

In the upcoming July issue of Arizona Parenting magazine, Tim and Gina Maloney of Pool Guard of Arizona are featured under the annual water safety promotion write up. The article tells of what drives Tim and Gina to promote drowning prevention and why pool fencing is necessary when you have children around pools. The Phoenix Fire Department has had a long running campaign of "Two Seconds is Too Long", and Tim being a fire fighter brings this down to the customer level when we they are face to face working with people thinking about purchasing a pool fence. Every drowning is preventable and this is what Tim and Gina try to convey with all their customers. Installing a pool fence is just one of many things people can do to prevent senseless drowning. Look for the upcoming issue for more details about the mesh fencing and how it works as well as what we can all do to stop these unnecessary tragic events from ever occurring.

Installation

We recently installed a fence in the Tampa Bay area. The customer selected Pool Guard because our interlocking mesh is stronger and more transparent than the standard textilene fence that most of our competitors sell. They were also very concerned about installing a fence in a thin paver deck because they were told by one of my competitors that they can not install a fence in a thin paver deck. I assured them they we have special sleeves and reinforcement methods we use when dealing with a pool safety fence in thin pavers, showed them several examples and we successfully installed their fence.

Homeowners’ shopping for a pool safety fence should be aware that all pool fencing is not the same, Interlocking mesh is slightly more money than textilene mesh but is significantly stronger and certainly more transparent. They should also realize that the safety of their child rests on a quality installation. A part-time installer, handyman or new pool fence installer won’t cut it, check the BBB or Angie’s List for references.

Elderly Pool Safety is Important and Often Over looked!

It is very important to keep children safe around the pool. Often times, the elderly are overlooked when it comes to safety. Did you know that the Pool Safety Act includes the elderly? Keeping our parents and grandparents safe is just as important. The Florida Residential Swimming Pool Safety Act states: "Medically frail elderly person" means any person who is at least 65 years of age and has a medical problem that affects balance, vision, or judgment, including, but not limited to, a heart condition, diabetes, or Alzheimer's disease or any related disorder." So, when purchasing a home or building a pool, keep all people safe around the pool.

Keeping Kids Safe

In 2004 of all children 1-4 years old who died, 26% died from drowning. (CDC 2006)

Fatal drowning remains the 2nd leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages 1-14 years. (CDC2005)

Of all preschoolers who drown 70% are in the care of one or both parents at the time of the drowning and 75% are missing from sight for 5 minutes or less. (Orange County, CA Fire Authority)

These statistics are alarming. People never think that it can happen to them, but the reality is that kids can get out of the sight of their parents for a short period of time, fall into a pool, and drown. Pool Safety Fences can prevent these types of tragedies. Pool fences provide another barrier to the pool, because doors can be left open, or kids can find away to open them and then it’s too late. If you have a pool fence with a self closing, self locking gate, you are helping to ensure your kids safety around your pool all year round.

Advanatages Of Mesh Fencing

One of the most commonly asked question is what are the advantages of a mesh fence:

Mesh fencing is more affordable. For a nice powder coated wrought iron fence you would be spending quite a bit more money (several hundred more) than you would with the removable mesh fencing system. The mesh fencing system is completely see through and does not give you that "jail cell" type of look. Mesh fencing preserves views and more importantly offers complete see through capability to your pool. The mesh fencing opens up your yard more, especially those back yards that aren't that big. The mesh fence is less obtrusive than other types of fencing thus giving you a feel of more space. The mesh fencing system is removable. Once your done with your fence you can easily remove it where as other types of fencing takes actual machinery to remove and haul away. Our mesh fencing is safe, durable and comes with a life time manufacturers warranty.
