A Pool Fence Could Have Prevented This Tragedy

This week was a devastating week for drownings and near drownings here in Broward County, Florida. In one instance, in Sunrise, Florida, two small children slipped out of the house and drowned in the backyard swimming pool. The reporter for a local television affiliate who covered this tragedy mentioned several times in his report that a pool fence would have saved the lives of the two little girls, aged 4 and 5.

In a separate incident, on the same day, a toddler was recovering in the hospital after his older sister and a police officer saved him from nearly drowning in the swimming pool. Again, a pool fence could have prevented this accident.

By the way, Pool Guard of Broward County is installing a pool safety fence for the mother of one of the paramedics on the scene of the drownings in Sunrise. The paramedic has two small children and his mother, who lives in Sunrise, has a swimming pool. This tragedy struck home with the paramedic and he insisted that his mother have a pool fence installed at her home ASAP.
