CPR Saves Lives

Every summer we hear about the tragedy of a child drowning in a swimming pool. North Las Vegas firefighters say they want to be prepared so they can save lives. They are spending the next couple of days using valley pools to train on water rescue. So far this year, there have been 31 near drownings and 5 drownings in the valley. With numbers like these, North Las Vegas Fire says they have to keep their skills up. That is why they train, testing their response in worst case scenarios. Firefighters say it is not only good training for them, it is good practice for young lifeguards. But keep in mind, most drownings do not happen in public pools.
Susie Kochevar, of North Las Vegas Fire, says "Most drowning happen in home pools". So paramedics say be prepared and always keep a watchful eye. They recommend thinking about putting a fence around the pool and to learn CPR. Paramedics say good CPR performed in the first four minutes can increase a person's chance of surviving by 300%.
